Treat your friends or family to a private activity-filled holiday. Montenegro, despite its small size and sparse population (less than 700,000), offers incredible diversity in its topography. Montenegro Mountains and Sea features two distinct regions: the Bay of Kotor on its Adriatic coast and its mountainous hinterland. The deep butterfly-shaped bay, 28 km/17 mi long, surrounded by cliffs that rise abruptly from the sea, is dotted with coastal villages along its 107 km/66 mi of coastline. Village to village sea kayaking routes are endless. Hop on a bike to cycle the bay’s coastal road for an on-land maritime experience. A breathtaking 2.5 hour drive reveals another world: the towering peaks of Durmitor National Park and the Tara River Canyon, one of the world’s deepest, largest, and most pristine river canyons. Raft the canyon, then relax riverside or pack your two night mountain retreat with additional alpine activities.

Enjoy sea kayaking in Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor. Thickly forested mountains rise abruptly from the sea, scattered with ancient mountaintop villages and churches. The coastline, dotted with historic sites and villages, includes two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the medieval walled city of Kotor and picturesque Perast. Paddle to every nook and cranny in the butterfly shaped bay from your home base, a private waterfront villa in Lepetane village,
conveniently located at the bay’s mid-point. In addition to well preserved medieval coastal towns, the bay's layers of history include WW II submarine tunnels tucked in its cliffs; the postcard perfect church islands near Perast; Porto Montenegro, Tivat’s glitzy marina, shops and restaurants; and impressive stone fortresses built to defend the bay's narrow entrance from the open sea from seafaring attacks. Climb Kotor’s defensive city walls, built to protect the town from an overland attack, for sweeping views of the entire bay.
The transition from Adriatic coastal life to Montenegro’s mountainous hinterland is an adventure in itself. A series of 23 switchbacks transports you from sea level to Montenegro's rural inland. The final forty minutes of the drive is breathtakingly beautiful, along the deep green Piva River and through natural stone tunnels to your final destination: a cluster of log cabins overlooking the Tara River. White water raft the final 18 km stretch of river with 22 rapids before the river enters Bosnia, stopping to swim in waterfalls. Enjoy the crisp mountain air, feast on hearty meals around an open campfire, and be lulled to sleep by the sound of the fast flowing Tara River.
